Information Collected by UMEZ
UMEZ collects information about you in three ways: (1) as directly provided by you; (2) automatically from network logs and website technology; and (3) through cookies. We typically keep information as needed for UMEZ’s operations, to learn how visitors use the website, and in connection with updating the content and operation of the website. UMEZ will retain information as required by law and may retain information in our IT backup systems and in hard copy form.
(1) User-Provided Information. We collect personal information that you share with us. Personal information is any information that can be used to personally identify you, such as name, physical address, email address, phone number, zip code and similar information, which you may provide to us for such purposes as signing up to receive UMEZ’s newsletters, to receive news from UMEZ and for correspondence. You may remove yourself from lists to receive email newsletters or news from UMEZ by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org. Other than to respond to communications initiated by individual users, or as otherwise consented to by individual users, or as otherwise necessary to ensure an appropriate level of accountability during online discussions and events, personal information will not be used to identify individual users and will not be distributed to other organizations to be used for commercial purposes.
(2) Information UMEZ Automatically Collects. When you browse, read webpages or download information on the UMEZ website, our computer system automatically captures and saves information about your activity. Examples of information that we may collect include your IP (Internet Protocol) address (which is a number that is assigned to your computer when using the Internet), the Internet browser or electronic device that you use, the date and time of use or access of our site, the webpages you visited on our site, certain searches that you conduct, and websites that you visited immediately before or after visiting our site. Any personal information collected by UMEZ is disclosed only on an aggregated basis to provide demographic data and website traffic patterns to funders and other interested stakeholders of UMEZ that require such information, and to guide site content enhancement.
(3) Cookies and Tracking Technology. We gather information during normal browsing which we do not tie back to specific individual users. This information about your session or about you may be collected by technology such as tracking technology and “cookies.” “Cookies” are small text files that a website transfers to a user’s hard disk (or solid-state drives or similar technology) or browser that can be used by a website to enable its users to store tailored information from the website. This information provided by cookies assists us in the design and content of our website to better meet the needs of users and prospective users.
