UMEZ’s strategic grantmaking is embedded in our broader community economic development work, supporting the long-term vitality of Upper Manhattan, including Central, East, and West Harlem, as well as Washington Heights and Inwood.
Our Programs and Grantmaking Investments department advances this mission through two core areas: Workforce Development and Cultural Investments. Together, these efforts strengthen local institutions, expand economic opportunities, and support the cultural identity of our communities. Guided by our strategic plan and core values, we align our grantmaking with our broader investment practices to respond to the evolving needs of Upper Manhattan.
Across all of our grantmaking, we invest in hyperlocal initiatives that build the capacity and sustainability of nonprofit organizations and contribute to the economic vitality of our community.
